Introduction to the "Giant Steps" studies
The following
examples
of
positions
represent vertical areas of linear activity presented with the string and finger
markings provided in line studies on
"Minority", "Lazybird" and "Giant Steps".
Example #1
visually represents a general area for the First Position in all the separate
studies. Although not exactly the same, other examples have a similar character.
Not only do these positions apply to
chord
forms
and their source, but to
linear
patterns
as well.

Activity within all 5 vertical areas
displayed must be mastered in twelve keys regarding chord as well as line patterns
(including their alterations). Once comfort is obtained in each of these positions,
pivital intermediates such as mi 2nds, Ma 2nds, perfect
4ths, etc., functionally couple all of these areas into one horizontal and vertical
canvas. The entire fingerboard then becomes any chosen topic.
